Hugh Jackman’s still got it. Logan, the newest movie in the Wolverine franchise, topped the box office this weekend. Get the details, and check out the full Top 10 below!In addition to being the 10th film in the X-Men universe, Logan is the third and final stand-alone film for Jackman’s Wolverine character. He’s once again joined by Patrick Stewart as Professor X. And fans are clearly quite happy to see them on screen again, even though the new film has a much darker tone than previous installments.
In fact, Logan earned March’s biggest R-rated opening ever with $85.3 million. That was more than $10 million higher than the previous record-holder, the 2006 epic 300. Meanwhile, moviegoers came out to see last week’s chart-topper, Get Out, but the film finished in a very distant second place, with a gross of $26.1 million. The new movie The Shack, starring Sam Worthington and Octavia Spencer, debuted in the number three spot with $16.1 million. The Lego Batman Movie secured fourth place with ticket sales of $11.7 million. And newcomer, Before I Fall, nabbed fifth. The film adaptation of the popular YA novel took in $4.9 million.Rounding out the Top 10 were John Wick 2 in sixth with $4.7 million, while Hidden Figures came in seventh with $3.8 million. The Great Wall took eighth with $3.5 million, while the ninth position went to Fifty Shades Darker, with $3.4 million. Just making it into the last spot in the Top 10 was La La Land. The film earned another $3 million.
